Jared L. Brush

Jared L. Brush (born July 6, 1835 in Clermont County , Ohio , †  April 24, 1913 in Greeley , Colorado ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1899 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Colorado.

Career

Jared Brush lived before he moved to Greeley, Iowa in 1859 . He worked in agriculture and developed irrigation systems. He also founded some agricultural associations. In 1871 he was also a sheriff in Weld County . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1874 and 1877 he was a member of the county council, and from 1879 to 1893 he was a member of the Colorado House of Representatives .

In 1894, Brush was elected lieutenant governor of Colorado alongside Albert McIntire . He held this office between 1895 and 1899. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . From 1897 he was after the departure of McIntire's deputy to Governor Alva Adams . From 1896 Brush was also active in the banking industry. At the same time he continued to work in agriculture. In Greeley, he founded a school that became the University of Northern Colorado today . In 1912 he was a substitute delegate to the Republican National Convention . He died on April 24, 1913 in Greeley, where he was also buried. The town of Brush , Colorado was named after him.
