John David Vanderhoof

John David Vanderhoof (born May 27, 1922 in Rocky Ford , Otero County , Colorado , † September 19, 2013 in Glenwood Springs , Colorado) was an American politician ( Republican Party ). He was the 36th governor of the state of Colorado from 1973 to 1975 .

Early years and advancement

Vanderhoof attended Glendale College in California until 1942 . He then took part in the Second World War as a naval aviator . For his military achievements he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart . Vanderhoof became a member of the Republican Party. Between 1950 and 1970 he was a member of the Colorado House of Representatives . In the 1960s he was president of this body several times. He was also part of the Forestry and Fisheries Committee and leader of the Republican MPs. In his private life he worked in the banking business.

Governor of colorado

In 1970 Vanderhoof was elected lieutenant governor of his state. When Governor John Arthur Love resigned from his post on July 16, 1973 to take up a post in the federal government, Vanderhoof had to end his term of office by January 14, 1975. His term of office was uneventful.

After the end of his governorship, Vanderhoof had withdrawn into his private life. He was married to Mary F. Junkin, with whom he had four children.
