Arthur Cornforth

Arthur Cornforth (born February 21, 1861 in Smethport , McKean County , Pennsylvania , † August 5, 1938 in Colorado Springs , Colorado ) was an American politician . Between January and March 1905 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Colorado.

Life

Nothing is known about Arthur Cornforth's youth and schooling. But he must have studied law. By October 1887, he practiced in Clyde in the state of Kansas as a lawyer. He then moved to Denver , Colorado, where he worked as an express agent for the Denver & Rio Grande Railway until 1889 . He then practiced again as a lawyer in Durango . In 1895 he also served as a district attorney. From 1896 he lived in Colorado Springs, where he specialized as a lawyer specializing in mining and real estate cases. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1903 and 1915 he sat several times in the Colorado Senate .

In 1904, Arthur Cornforth was elected lieutenant governor of the state of Colorado alongside Alva Adams . The election of 1904 was soon challenged because of suspicion of election fraud. When this objection was accepted, both Adams and his deputy Cornforth lost their offices in March 1905, which they had only assumed in January. In 1913 Arthur Cornforth ran unsuccessfully for the office of mayor of Colorado Springs. From 1921 he acted as a district judge. At the time of his death on August 5, 1938, he was presiding judge in the fourth judicial district of his state.
