William Story

William Story (born April 4, 1843 in Waukesha County , Wisconsin , †  June 20, 1921 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Colorado ; previously he served as a federal judge .

Career

In 1864, William Story graduated from the University of Michigan , where he studied law. During the final stages of the Civil War , he served in a Wisconsin infantry unit in 1864 and 1865. He then practiced as a lawyer in Milwaukee until 1866 . He then moved his firm to Fayetteville , Arkansas . From 1867 to 1871 he was a judge in the second judicial district of this state. In 1869 he was also a judge at the local Supreme Court for some time . From 1871 to 1874, Story was a federal district judge for the western district of Arkansas. He resigned from this post on June 17, 1874 after allegations of corruption against him. He then moved to Denver and then to Ouray , Colorado, where he practiced as a successful lawyer. He has also worked in banking, mining and railroad business, as well as road construction.

Politically, Story was a member of the Republican Party . In 1890 he was elected lieutenant governor of Colorado alongside John Long Routt . He held this office between 1891 and 1893. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1913 he moved his law firm to Salt Lake City , Utah . He later moved to Los Angeles, where he died on June 20, 1921.
