The Weld County is a county in the state of Colorado of the United States . The county seat is Greeley .
geography
The county is located in northeast Colorado, at the eastern foot of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains . It borders directly on the US state of Nebraska . The area is 10,416 square kilometers, of which 75 square kilometers are water. Parts of the county are crossed by the Pawnee National Grassland and the South Platte River . US Highway 85 runs through the county.
history
Weld County was one of the first 17 counties in the state of Colorado. It was erected on November 1, 1861. On February 9, 1887, the present counties Washington County , Logan County , Morgan County , Yuma County , Phillips County and Sedgwick County were formed from parts of the county .
The county is named after Lewis Ledyard Weld , a lawyer and politician. He died during the American Civil War .
economy
The county is agricultural and is considered the granary and largest meat producer in Colorado. The milk production is one of the largest in the United States. Interstate 76 runs through the county .

According to the 2000 census , the county had 180,936 people. There were 63,247 households and 45,221 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 81.71 percent white, 0.56 percent African American, 0.87 percent Native American, 0.83 percent Asian, 0.08 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 13.29 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.65 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 27.05 percent of the total population.
Of the 63,247 households, 37.2 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 57.6 percent were married couples living together, 9.4 percent were single mothers. 28.5 percent were not families. 21.0 percent were single households and 6.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.25.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 28.2 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 13.2 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 9.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 100.6 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 98.0 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 42,321 , and the median income for a family is $ 49,569. Males had a median income of $ 35,037 versus $ 25,757 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,957. 12.5 percent of the population and 8.0 percent of families are below the poverty line. These included 14.6 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 8.5 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
