The Washington County is a county in the state of Colorado of the United States . The county seat is Akron .
geography
The county is located in northeast Colorado and has an area of 6,537 square kilometers, of which 8 square kilometers are water. In the northwest, the county shares in the South Platte River . The Beaver Creek and Arikaree also flow through Washington County. The Fremont Buttes rock formation is a county landmark. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Logan County , Yuma County , Kit Carson County , Lincoln County , Adams County , Arapahoe County, and Morgan County .

Ds County was formed in 1877 as the 12th of 64 counties. The county was named after George Washington , the first President of the United States.

The county had a population of 4,926 as of the 2000 census . There were 1,989 households and 1,408 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.39 percent white, 0.04 percent African American, 0.57 percent Native American, 0.10 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 2.03 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.85 percent were descended from two or more races. 6.29 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,989 households, 31.3 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.7 percent were married couples living together, 6.4 percent were single mothers. 29.2 percent were not families. 26.2 percent were single households and 11.6 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 2.97 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.5 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 6.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.2 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 18.2 percent were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 103.4 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 100.1 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 32,431 , and the median income for a family is $ 37,287. Males had a median income of $ 26,225 versus $ 21,558 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,788. 11.4 percent of the population and 8.6 percent of families are below the poverty line. These included 16.3 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 9.4 percent of the population aged 65 and over.

In the northwest, the county has a share of Interstate Highway 76 with a junction and a rest area. Akron is home to the Colorado Plains Regional Airport.
