The Sedgwick County is an administrative unit ( county ) in the extreme northeast of the US state of Colorado . The county seat is Julesburg .

geography

The county is located in the far northeast of Colorado. It is bounded in a counterclockwise direction by Logan (west) and Philips counties . Due to its exposed location, it borders on the US state of Nebraska . To the north lies Deuel County , in the northeast of Keith County and the East Perkins County .

history

In 1889 the county was formed from Logan County. The name of the county is derived from the former Fort Sedgwick, which is named after the American General John Sedgwick (1813-1864).

The county had a population of 2,747 people as of the 2000 census . There were 1,165 households and 802 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.50 percent white, 0.51 percent African American, 0.15 percent Native American, 0.76 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.97 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.04 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 11.43 percent of the total population.

Of the 1,165 households, 26.4 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 59.1 percent were married couples living together, 6.6 percent were single mothers. 31.1 percent were not families. 29.4 percent were single households and 13.6 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.83 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.8 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 6.6 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.5 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 22.1 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 100.1 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 97.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 28,278 , and the median income for a family was $ 33,953. Males had a median income of $ 25,463 versus $ 16,392 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,125. 10.0 percent of the population and 7.8 percent of families are below the poverty line. These included 13.7 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 4.2 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
