The county had 6,087 people as of the 2000 census . There were 2,058 households and 1,389 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 86.30 percent white, 4.96 percent African American, 0.94 percent Native American, 0.56 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.65 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.56 percent were descended from two or more races.
