Adams County [ ˈædəmz ] is an administrative unit ( county ) in the northeast of the US state Colorado , which emerged in 1902 from the northern part of the Arapahoe district and was named after Alva Adams, a governor popular in the region at the time . In 1989, part of the southwestern Adams' of the city of Denver was added to the construction of the Denver International Airport and its access road ( Peña Boulevard ). In 2001 the borough lost another small part to the northwest when the town of Broomfield declared itself an independent borough .
The largest city completely in the county is Thornton with around 105,000 inhabitants, while only about 42,000 people live in Adams County from the about three times the size of the Aurora . Adams County is headquartered in Brighton .
geography
Adams County is located in the central to northeastern part of Colorado and extends over an area of around 115 km in length and mostly around 30 km in width. It is enclosed by the districts of Weld , Morgan , Washington , Arapahoe , Denver , Boulder and Jefferson . The total area of 3,102 square kilometers accounts for 15 km² of water, of which the South Platte River and Barr Lake, which has been declared a state park , are the most important.
population
The majority of the population lives in the western part of the county, where Adams County forms part of the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area . Most of the territory, however, is barely populated over a length of around 85 km to the west. 63.3 percent of the population are white and 28.2 percent Hispanic 37% of the population are younger than 18, while 7.8 percent are older than 65 years, the average age is 31.4 years.

The county had 363,857 people as of the 2000 census . There were 128,156 households and 92,144 families. The population density was 118 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 77.29 percent white, 2.97 percent African American, 1.19 percent Native American, 3.21 percent Asian, 0.12 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 11.73 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.49 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 28.19 percent of the population.
Of the 128,156 households, 37.8 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 53.8 percent were married couples living together, 12.1 percent were single mothers. 28.1 percent were not families. 21.2 percent were single households and 5.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.27.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 28.6 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 10.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 34.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 19.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 7.8 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 102.8 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 102.1 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 47,323 , and the median income for a family is $ 52,517. Males had a median income of $ 36,499 versus $ 28,053 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,944. 8.9 percent of the population and 6.5 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 10.9 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 7.3 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
