history

In 1927 a Colorado & Southern Railroad employee bought about 2.5 acres of land along Federal Boulevard , which later leads into Denver . This and the fact that the place is slightly above Denver led to the name being Federal Heights. In the late 1930s, 34 people lived in the place, which was made a city in 1977. Federal Heights has been home to Federal Heights Airport since the 1930s, where numerous pilots in particular were trained for their use in World War II . The airport closed in 1961 after failing to compete with Jefferson County Airport in nearby Broomfield .
