Brighton is a city in the US state of Colorado , United States . It is partly in Weld County and partly in Adams County and is its county seat .

Brighton is run as the Home Rule Municipality . According to the 2010 US census , Brighton had 33,352 residents.

history

The place, which takes its name after the British city of Brighton , was elevated to the status of city on September 1, 1887. Since 1884, when a station on the railway line running along the Front Range was set up here, the place was a center of trade in the region. With the establishment of a dairy in the same year, Brighton's industrial development began. From the early 1900s to the 1970s, sugar production was a major industry in the city.

Demographics

At the time of the United States Census 2000, 20,905 people lived in the city. The population density was 473 people per km². There were 6990 housing units at an average of 472.6 per km ². The population of Brighton was 76.91% White , 0.99% Black or African American , 1.47% Native American , 1.10% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 16.29% said other races belong to and 3.20% mentioned two or more races. 38.22% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.

The residents of Brighton were distributed across 6718 households out of which 40.2% had children under the age of 18. 58.6% of households were married, 11.9% had a female head of household without a husband, and 24.7% were not families. 19.7% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 8.5% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.92 and the average family size was 3.34 people.

The urban population was divided between 28.6% minors, 10.1% 18–24 year olds, 32.7% 25–44 year olds, 18.8% 45–64 year olds and 9.7% aged 65 and over or more. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 women there were 108.0 men. For every 100 women over 18, there were 108.3 men.

The median household income in Brighton was 46,779 US dollars and the median family income reached the amount of 53,286 US dollars. The median income for men was $ 35,686 compared to $ 27,103 for women.
