The Montrose County is a county in the state of Colorado of the United States . It was named after the city of Montrose , where the county seat is also located.

The county is located in western Colorado and has an area of ​​5,808 square kilometers, of which 5 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Mesa County , Delta County , Gunnison County , Ouray County , San Miguel County, and San Juan County, Utah .

As of the 2000 census , the county had 33,432 people. There were 13,043 households and 9,312 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 89.96 percent white, 0.31 percent African American, 1.02 percent Native American, 0.42 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.74 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.49 percent were descended from two or more races. 14.86 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
