The Routt County is a county in the state of Colorado in the midst of the Rocky Mountains . The county seat is Steamboat Springs .

The county in the northwest of Colorado borders the US state Wyoming in the north and Utah in the west behind what is now Moffat County . The county has an area of 6133 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water.
To the west of the county around the locality was Hayden and Oak Creek earlier coal mined. There are numerous geothermal springs in the county.
history
Routt County was formed in 1877 from parts of Grand County . Thirty-four years later, in 1911, the western portion of Routt County became a separate county. Since then, what is now Moffat County borders directly on Utah.
Routt County is named after John Long Routt , the first and seventh governor of Colorado.

According to the 2000 census , the county had 19,690 people. There were 7,953 households and 4,779 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.90 percent white, 0.13 percent African American, 0.49 percent Native American, 0.39 percent Asian, 0.09 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.73 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.28 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.22 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 7,953 households, 31.1 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 50.6 percent were married couples living together, 5.8 percent were single mothers. 39.9 percent were not families. 24.4 percent were single households and 3.7 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.92 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.6 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 10.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 36.5 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 5.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 116.6 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 119.4 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 53,612 , and the median income for a family is $ 61,927. Males had a median income of $ 36,997 versus $ 26,576 for females. The per capita income was $ 28,792. 6.1 percent of the population and 2.8 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 5.2 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 7.7 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
