Yuma County is a county in the northeast of the US state Colorado . The county seat is Wray . The county is named after the Yuma . The Yuma are more likely to settle in the area between California and Arizona today .

The county borders in the east on the US states Nebraska ( Dundy County , Chase County ) and Kansas ( Cheyenne County ). In Colorado these are - starting with the southern - Kit Carson County , Washington County , Logan County and Phillips County .

According to the 2000 census , the county had 9,841 people. There were 3,800 households and 2,644 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.17 percent white, 0.11 percent African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 0.07 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 4.14 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.21 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 12.88 percent of the total population.
Of the 3,800 households, 33.3 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 59.6 percent were married couples living together, 6.8 percent were single mothers. 30.4 percent were not families. 27.4 percent were single households and 13.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.13.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 28.3 percent of residents under the age of 18, 7.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 16.3 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 94.9 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,169 , and the median income for a family is $ 39,814. Males had a median income of $ 26,124 versus $ 18,578 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,005. 12.9 percent of the population and 8.8 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 15.5 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 10.7 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
