The San Miguel County is a county in the state of Colorado of the United States . The county seat is Hot Sulfur Springs .

The county has an area of ​​4842 square kilometers, of which 59 square kilometers are water.

history

Grand County was formed from parts of Summit County on February 2, 1874 , and included land on the western and northern state lines that are now Moffat Counties and Routt Counties . When Routt County was established on January 29, 1877, Grand County shrank to its present-day western boundary. When valuable minerals were found in North Park , Grand County claimed the area as did Larimer County . It took a decision from the Colorado Supreme Court in 1886 to make North Park part of Larimer County. So the northern border was finally established.

As of the 2000 census , the county had 12,442 people. There were 5,075 households and 3,217 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.15 percent white, 0.48 percent African American, 0.43 percent Native American, 0.68 percent Asian, 0.10 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.00 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.15 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 4.36 percent of the total population.

Of the 5,075 households, 28.1 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 54.7 percent were married couples living together, 5.2 percent were single mothers. 36.6 percent were not families. 24.8 percent were single households and 4.8 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.85.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 21.8 percent of residents under the age of 18, 9.0 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 34.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 26.8 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 7.8 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 112.7 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 115.7 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 47,759 , and the median income for a family is $ 55,217. Males had a median income of $ 34,861 versus $ 26,445 for females. The per capita income was $ 25,198. 7.3 percent of the population and 5.4 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 7.9 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 6.1 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
