As of the 2000 census , the county had 14,523 people. There were 5,894 households and 4,220 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.07 percent white, 0.50 percent African American, 0.92 percent Native American, 0.41 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.23 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.84 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 4.32 percent of the total population.

Of the 5894 households, 30.2 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 64.1 percent were married couples living together, 4.4 percent were single mothers. 28.4 percent were not families. 21.1 percent were single households and 3.2 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.86 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.5 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 5.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 33.4 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 30.6 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 7.3 percent were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 107.1 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 107.6 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 51,899 , and the median income for a family is $ 57,025. Males had a median income of $ 41,480 versus $ 27,807 for females. The per capita income was $ 25,019. 5.6 percent of the population and 3.4 percent of families are below the poverty line. These included 5.6 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 5.7 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
