As of the 2000 census , the county had 14,523 people. There were 5,894 households and 4,220 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.07 percent white, 0.50 percent African American, 0.92 percent Native American, 0.41 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.23 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.84 percent were descended from two or more races.
