San Juan County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Utah . In 2010 , the county had 14,746 residents and a population density of 0.7 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Monticello , the largest town is Blanding .

geography

The county is located in the extreme southeast of Utah and meets at the Four Corners on the interface between the states of Utah, Colorado , New Mexico and Arizona .

It has an area of ​​20,547 square kilometers (7,933 mi²), of which 292 square kilometers are water surfaces. The county is traversed by the eponymous San Juan River , a tributary of the Colorado River , which also forms the western border of the county.

The San Juan River forms the northern limit of the Navajo Nation Reservation within the county , the majority of which is otherwise in Arizona. Parts of the reservation area extend into the neighboring states of Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. Monument Valley lies within the reservation area, on the southern border of San Juan Counties with Arizona .
