The Apache County is a county in the northeast of the state of Arizona to the United States . The county seat is in St. Johns .

The county has an area of ​​29,056 square kilometers, including 35 square kilometers of water. Most of the area is also part of the Navajo Nation Reservation .

history

The county was formed on February 24, 1879 and named after the Apache tribal group .

The Navajo Nation Council Chamber has been a National Historic Landmark since August 2004 .

According to the 2000 census , Apache County had 69,423 people. There were 19,971 households and 15,257 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 19.50% White, 0.25% African American, 76.88% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, and 1.75% other races Groups; 1.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 4.49% percent of the population.
