The Navajo County is a county in the northeast of the US state of Arizona . The county seat is in Holbrook .
geography
The county has an area of 25,778 square kilometers, including 16 square kilometers of water. Most of the area is also part of the Navajo Nation Reservation .
history
The county was formed on March 21, 1895 and named after the Navajo .
55 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of May 7, 2020), including the Fort Apache Historic District , the Awatovi Ruins and Old Oraibi have the status of a National Historic Landmark .

As of the 2000 census , Navajo County had 97,470 people. There were 30,043 households and 23,073 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 45.91% White, 0.88% African American, 47.74% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, and 3.15% other races Groups; 1.94% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 8.22% percent of the population.
Of the 30,043 households, 40.50% percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 55.50% percent were married couples living together, 16.30% percent were single mothers, 23.20% percent were non-families. 19.90% were single households and 7.20% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.17 and the average family size was 3.68 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 35.40% of residents under 18 years of age, 8.80% between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.30% between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.40% between 45 and 64 years of age 10.00% were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 98.70 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 97.20 males.
The median income for a household in the 28,569 USD , and the median income for a family was 32,409 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,509 versus $ 21,621 for females. The per capita income was $ 11,609. 29.50% of the population and 23.40% of families are below the poverty line. 36.60% of them are under 18 years of age and 20.30% are 65 years of age or older.
There are six parishes in Navajo County, including three cities and three towns . For statistical purposes, the US Census Bureau maintains 32 census-designated places that are subordinate to the county and are not self-governing. Like the Unincorporated Communities, these are unincorporated areas.
