Graham County is a county in the state of Arizona in the United States . The county seat is in Safford .
geography
The county is located in southwest Arizona with a total area of 11,989 square kilometers and a water surface of 30 square kilometers. About a third of the land area is taken up by the Natanes Mountains .
history
The county was formed in 1881 from parts of Pima County . It was the first county in Arizona whose name was not derived from an Indian language . The territory was named as early as 1848 and honors James Duncan Graham . This was a member of the "Corps of Topographic Engineers" of the United States Army .
32 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of May 5, 2020), including the Point of Pines Sites and the Sierra Bonita Ranch have the status of National Historic Landmarks .

After the census in 2000 33,489 people lived in Graham County. There were 10,116 households and 7,617 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 67.11% White, 1.87% African American, 14.95% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, and 13.35% other races Groups; 2.14% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 27.04% percent of the population.
Of the 10,116 households, 39.00% percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.20% percent were married couples living together, 13.40% percent were single mothers, 24.70% percent were non-families. 20.90% are single households and 9.90% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.99 and the average family size was 3.47 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 30.10% of residents under 18 years of age, 12.00% between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.30% between 25 and 44 years of age, 18.70% between 45 and 64 years of age 11.90% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 112.50 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 115.10 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,668 , and the median income for a family is $ 34,417. Males had a median income of $ 30,524 versus $ 20,739 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,139. 23.00% of the population and 17.70% of families are below the poverty line. 30.20% of them are under 18 years of age and 13.60% are 65 years of age or older.
