Hotevilla-Bacavi ( Hopi : Hotvela-Paaqavi , also known as Third Mesa) is a census-designated place in Navajo County in the US state of Arizona . Hotevilla-Bacavi has 767 inhabitants on an area of 30.8 km². It is on the Hopi Reservation within the Navajo Nation .
Hotevilla was first settled by the hostile , a group of Hopi residents who were expelled from nearby Oraibi in 1906. The background was ideological disagreements over the cultural influence of white settlers, soldiers and missionaries, which the hostile opposed. A later attempt at reintegration led to a further split and the establishment of Bacavi. This merged with Hotevilla to form today's settlement.
