Kayenta ( Navajo : Tó Dinéeshzheeʼ ) is a census-designated place in Navajo County in the state of Arizona . It has 4922 inhabitants and an area of 34.3 km² and is located at an altitude of 1719 m .
It is located south of Monument Valley and houses some hotels for visitors to the valley. Alcohol is prohibited in Kayenta due to its location on the Navajo Nation Reservation .
South of Kayenta, US Highway 163 begins on US Highway 160 .
