Piute County is a county in the state of Utah in the United States . The county seat is Junction . The biggest place is Circleville .

Piute County has an area of 1983 km² (766 mi²), 21 km² of which is water. It is bordered clockwise by the counties: Wayne County , Iron County , Garfield County , Beaver County, and Sevier County .
history
Piute County was founded in 1865. It got its name after the Indian tribe Piute .

According to the 2000 census , Piute County had 1,435 people. There were 509 households and 389 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.61% White, 0.14% African American, 1.18% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, and 1.88% other races Groups; 0.91% from two or more races. 4.46% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 509 households, 33.00% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 67.60% were married couples living together, 5.70% were single mothers. 23.40% were not families. 22.40% were single households and 11.60% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.25.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 30.70% of residents under 18 years of age, 6.60% between 18 and 24 years of age, 19.70% between 25 and 44 years of age, 26.00% between 45 and 64 years of age 17.10% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 104.40 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 101.60 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,625 , and the median income for a family is $ 35,147. Males had a median income of $ 26,771 versus $ 18,438 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,697. 16.20% of the population and 11.70% of families are below the poverty line. 19.10% of these were under 18 years of age and 7.00% were 65 years of age or older.
