Box Elder County is a county in the northwest of the US state of Utah . The county seat is Brigham City . In 2010, Box Elder County's population was 49,975.

Box Elder County is north of the Great Salt Lake . It forms the border with the US state Idaho in the north and with the state of Nevada in the west . According to the US Census Bureau, it covers an area of ​​17,428 square kilometers, of which 2605 square kilometers are water. To the east are the Wellsville Mountains . The Interstate 15 crosses the eastern part and leading southward throughout Utah . The Wasatch Front is on the county's southeastern border. The county seat and largest city is Brigham City . The county is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Cassia County Idaho , Oneida County Idaho , Cache County , Weber County , Tooele County, and Elko County, Nevada.

Box Elder County was founded in 1856. It got its name from the ash maple that is often found there (there box elder , in German for example called box elder ).

On May 10, 1869, the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads met at the Promontory Summit . The area has been the Golden Spike National Historic Site since 1957 .

Box Elder County's population was 42,745 as of the 2000 census . There were 13,144 households and 10,804 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.87% White, 0.17% African American, 0.88% Native American, 0.96% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, and 3.45% other races Groups; 1.60% were from two or more races. 6.53% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 13,144 households, 47.10% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 71.00% were married couples living together, 7.90% were a single mother. 17.80% were not families. 16.00% were single households and 7.40% had someone who was 65 years of age or older.
