Cassia County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Burley .

geography

The county is located in southern Idaho, borders both Utah and Nevada and has an area of ​​6,683 square kilometers, of which 36 square kilometers are water. The lowest point in the county is Milner Lake , a reservoir of the Snake River at 1204 m and the highest on Cache Peak at 3110 m above sea level. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Minidoka County , Blaine County , Power County , Oneida County , Twin Falls County, and Jerome County . It is predominantly in the Basin and Range region, the north on the Snake River protrudes into the plain of the Snake River Plain .

Cassia County was formed on February 20, 1879 from parts of Oneida County. It was named after Cassia Creek , a small river nearby.

As of the 2000 census , Cassia County had 21,416 people in 7,060 households and 5,485 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 84.69 percent white, 0.17 percent African American, 0.80 percent Native American, 0.37 percent Asian, 0.05 percent from the Pacific island area and 12.06 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.87 percent were descended from two or more races.
