Butte County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Arco .
geography
The county is located just southeast of the geographic center of Idaho and has an area of 5785 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Clark County , Jefferson County , Bingham County , Blaine County , Lemhi County, and Custer County . The north of the county belongs to the Basin and Range region, the south is in the Snake River Plain . Part of the Craters of the Moon National Monument is in the county . It is named after five rhyolithic lava domes , the largest of which is the Big Southern Butte .

Butte County was formed on February 6, 1917 from parts of Bingham County.
In Butte County is a National Historic Landmark , the Experimental Breeder Reactor I . 3 other structures and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places .

As of the 2000 census , Butte County had 2,899 people in 1,089 households and 802 families. The population density was 1 person / km². The racial the population was composed of 94.65 percent white, 0.28 percent African American, 0.69 percent Native American, 0.24 percent Asian, 2.38 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.76 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 4.14 percent of the population.
Of the 1,089 households, 32.8 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 63.2 percent of them were married couples living together. 7.4 percent were single mothers and 26.3 percent were non-families. 23.6 percent were single households and 10.9 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.14.
29.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.3 percent between 18 and 24 years, 24.0 percent between 25 and 44 years, 25.7 percent between 45 and 64 years. 14.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 101.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 99.3 men.
The median household income was 30,473 USD , and the median income for a family 36,950 USD. Males had a median income of $ 37,750 versus $ 20,962 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,948. 14.7 percent of families and 18.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
