The Owyhee County is the area's second-largest relative County in the state of Idaho of the United States . The county seat is Murphy .

The county is located in the extreme southwest of Idaho, borders Oregon to the west and Nevada to the south and has an area of 19,934 square kilometers, of which 48 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Canyon County , Ada County , Elmore County, and Twin Falls Counties . The county is almost entirely on the Owyhee Plateau , with the Owyhee Mountains in the northwest . The northeast border forms the Snake River , the bank region belongs to the level of the Snake River Plain .
history
Owyhee County was formed as the original county on December 31, 1863. It was named after the Owyhee River . Ruby City was the first district capital from 1863 to 1867 . After that was Silver City until 1934 seat of the administration before it was Murphy.

As of the 2000 census , Owyhee County had 10,644 people in 3,710 households and 2,756 families. The population density was 1 person / km². The racial the population was composed of 76.87 percent white, 0.15 percent African American, 3.21 percent Native American, 0.47 percent Asian, 0.08 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 16.50 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.72 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 23.1 percent of the population.
Of the 3,710 households, 37.8 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.2 percent of them were married couples living together. 8.7 percent were single mothers and 25.7 percent were non-families. 21.8 percent were single households and 9.5 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.35 people.
31.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.5 percent between 18 and 24 years, 26.5 percent between 25 and 44 years, 20.9 percent between 45 and 64 years. 12.1 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 109.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 107.6 men.
The median household income was 28,339 US dollars , the average income of families 32,856 USD. Males had a median income of $ 25,146 versus $ 20,718 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,405. 14.2 percent of families and 16.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
