Kootenai County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Coeur d'Alene .

The county is located in northwest Idaho, borders Washington to the west and has an area of 3,408 square kilometers, of which 183 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Bonner County , Shoshone County, and Benewah County .
history
Kootenai County was formed on December 22, 1864 from parts of Nez Perce County . It was named after the Kutenai Indian tribe , as it is located in the tribe's traditional settlement area.
Kootenai County has a National Historic Landmark , the Cataldo Mission . 41 other structures and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places .

As of the 2000 census , Kootenai County had 108,685 people in 41,308 households and 29,659 families. The population density was 34 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.84 percent white, 0.17 percent African American, 1.23 percent Native American, 0.50 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.59 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.60 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.33 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 41,308 households, 34.9 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.6 percent of them were married couples living together. 9.2 percent were single mothers and 28.2 percent were non-families. 21.9 percent were single households and 8.3 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.03.
27.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.7 percent between 18 and 24 years old, 28.0 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 years. 12.3 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 94.9 men.
The median household income was 37,754 USD , and the median income for a family 42,905 USD. Males had a median income of $ 33,661 versus $ 22,113 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,430. 7.7 percent of families and 10.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
