Gooding County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Gooding .

The county is located in south-central Idaho, about 50 miles from Nevada , and has an area of 1,901 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Elmore County , Twin Falls County , Jerome County , Lincoln County, and Camas County . It lies entirely within the plain of the Snake River Plain .

history

Gooding County was formed on January 28, 1913 from parts of Lincoln County. It was named after Frank R. Gooding , a rancher, US Senator, and Governor of Idaho.

As of the 2000 census , Gooding County had 14,155 people in 5,046 households and 3,718 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.59 percent white, 0.23 percent African American, 0.84 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 8.24 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.80 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 17.05 percent of the population.

Of the 5,046 households, 36.1 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.9 percent of them were married couples living together. 7.6 percent were single mothers and 26.3 percent were non-families. 22.0 percent were single households and 11.5 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.22 people.

29.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 25.1 percent between 25 and 44 years, 21.2 percent between 45 and 64 years. 15.4 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 104.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 102.0 men.

The median household income was 31,888 USD , and the median income for a family 36,290 USD. Males had a median income of $ 25,321 versus $ 17,903 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,612. 11.2 percent of families and 13.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
