Minidoka County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Rupert .

The county is located in south-central Idaho, about 70 km from Nevada and Utah , and has an area of 1976 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Blaine County , Cassia County , Jerome County, and Lincoln Counties . It lies entirely within the plain of the Snake River Plain . Parts of the Craters of the Moon National Monument are in the county .

history

Minidoka County was formed on January 28, 1913 from parts of Lincoln County. It was named after the first settlement in this area.

4 of the county's structures and sites are on the National Register of Historic Places .

According to the 2000 census , Minidoka County had 20,174 people in 6,973 households and 5,362 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 78.07 percent white, 0.26 percent African American, 0.88 percent Native American, 0.42 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 17.83 percent from other ethnic groups Groups. 2.52 percent are descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 25.46 percent of the population.

Of the 6,973 households, 38.9 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 64.4 percent of them were married couples living together. 8.2 percent were single mothers and 23.1 percent were non-families. 20.0 percent were single households and 9.6 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.32 people.

31.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.1 percent between 18 and 24 years, 25.2 percent between 25 and 44 years, 20.9 percent between 45 and 64 years. 13.2 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 99.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 97.8 men.

The median household income was 32,021 US dollars , the average income of families 36,500 USD. Males had a median income of $ 28,977 versus $ 19,521 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,813. 11.9 percent of families and 14.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
