Payette County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Payette .
geography
The county is located in western Idaho, bordering Oregon and has an area of 1062 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Washington County , Gem County, and Canyon County . The south of the county is on the Snake River Plain .
history
Payette County was formed on February 28, 1917 from parts of Canyon County. It was named after the Payette River .
15 of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places .

As of the 2000 census , Payette County's population was 20,578. 117 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 7,371 households and 5,572 families. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.25 percent white, 0.87 percent Native American, 0.85 percent Asian, 0.10 percent African American, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.57 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.33 percent are descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 11.92 percent of the population.
Of the 7,371 households, 37.7 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.0 percent of these were married couples living together. 9.3 percent were single mothers and 24.4 percent were non-families. 20.6 percent were single households and 9.5 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.21 people.
30.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.9 percent between 18 and 24 years, 26.6 percent between 25 and 44 years, 21.7 percent between 45 and 64 years. 13.2 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 94.8 men.
The median household income was 33,046 US dollars , the average income of families 37,430 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,641 versus $ 21,421 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,924. 9.7 percent of families and 13.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
