Lewis County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Nezperce .

The county is located in northwest Idaho, about 20 km to the west from Washington and Oregon , has an area of 1,243 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Nez Perce County , Idaho County, and Clearwater Counties .
history
Lewis County was formed on March 3, 1911 from parts of Lewis County. It was named after Meriwether Lewis , an American explorer, soldier, and administrative officer.

As of the 2000 census , Lewis County had 3,747 people in 1,554 households and 1,050 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.21 percent white, 0.35 percent African American, 3.84 percent Native American, 0.43 percent Asian, 0.08 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.93 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.16 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.89 percent of the population.
Of the 1,554 households, 27.5 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.8 percent of them were married couples living together. 32.4 percent were not families. 28.1 percent were single households and 14.5 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.92 people.
25.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 5.3 percent between 18 and 24 years, 23.8 percent between 25 and 44 years, 27.1 percent between 45 and 64 years. 18.5 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 101.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 98.2 men.
The median household income was 31,413 USD , and the median income for a family 37,336 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,021 versus $ 22,538 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,942. 8.7 percent of families and 12.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
