Canyon County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Caldwell .
geography
The county is located in southwest Idaho, borders Oregon to the west and has an area of 1,563 square kilometers, of which 36 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Payette County , Gem County , Ada County, and Owyhee Counties . It lies entirely within the plain of the Snake River Plain .
history
Canyon County was formed on March 7, 1891 from parts of Ada County. Early immigrants moved to the west coast of this county as the Oregon Trail passed here.
Forty-four buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places .

As of the 2000 census , Canyon County had 131,441 people in 45,018 households and 33,943 families. The population density was 86 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.10 percent white, 0.32 percent African American, 0.85 percent Native American, 0.80 percent Asian, 0.13 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 12.17 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.62 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 18.61 percent of the population.
Of the 45,018 households, 39.8 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.7 percent of them were married couples living together. 10.1 percent were single mothers and 24.6 percent were non-families. 19.8 percent were single households and 8.4 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.28 people.
30.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 10.7 percent between 18 and 24 years old, 28.3 percent between 25 and 44 years, 19.1 percent between 45 and 64 years. 11.0 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 96.3 men.
The median household income was 35,884 USD , and the median income for a family 40,377 USD. Males had a median income of $ 29,418 versus $ 22,044 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,155. 8.7 percent of families and 12.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
