Canyon County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Caldwell .

geography

The county is located in southwest Idaho, borders Oregon to the west and has an area of ​​1,563 square kilometers, of which 36 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Payette County , Gem County , Ada County, and Owyhee Counties . It lies entirely within the plain of the Snake River Plain .

history

Canyon County was formed on March 7, 1891 from parts of Ada County. Early immigrants moved to the west coast of this county as the Oregon Trail passed here.

Forty-four buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places .

As of the 2000 census , Canyon County had 131,441 people in 45,018 households and 33,943 families. The population density was 86 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.10 percent white, 0.32 percent African American, 0.85 percent Native American, 0.80 percent Asian, 0.13 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 12.17 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.62 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 18.61 percent of the population.
