Adams County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Council .

The county is located in northwest Idaho, borders Oregon to the west and has an area of 3548 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Idaho County , Valley County , Gem County, and Washington County .

history

Adams County was formed on March 3, 1911 from parts of Washington County. It was named after the US President John Adams .

The first people to settle here were some smaller Shoshone tribes . Then around 1862 several prospectors moved through this area on the way to the gold finds in Ada County . The first white settlers were the George and Elizabeth Moser family from Germany with their children, who settled in the area of today's council and opened the first post office there on November 19, 1878. The area got a railway connection in 1882.

7 buildings and sites in the county are listed as monuments on the National Register of Historic Places .

As of the 2000 census , Adams County had 3,476 people in 1,421 households and 1,031 families. The population density was 1 person / km². The racial the population was composed of 96.29 percent white, 1.41 percent Native American, 0.14 percent Asian, 0.06 percent African American, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.92 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.15 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.55 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,421 households, 28.0 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 63.3 percent of them were married couples living together. 5.7 percent were single mothers and 27.4 percent were non-families. 23.2 percent were single households and 9.9 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.83 people.

23.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 4.6 percent between 18 and 24 years, 22.6 percent between 25 and 44 years, 32.7 percent between 45 and 64 years. 16.1 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 105.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 102.1 men.

The median household income was 28,423 USD , and the median income for a family 32,335 USD. Males had a median income of $ 29,097 versus $ 14,408 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,908. 11.7 percent of families and 15.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
