Shoshone County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Wallace .

The county is located in northwest Idaho, borders Montana to the northeast and has an area of ​​6,826 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Bonner County , Kootenai County , Benewah County , Latah County, and Clearwater County .

Shoshone County was formed as the original county on February 4, 1864. It was named after the Indian tribe of the Shoshone .

According to the 2000 census , Shoshone County had 13,771 people in 5,906 households and 3,856 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.84 percent white, 0.11 percent African American, 1.52 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.49 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.74 percent were descended from two or more races.
