Boundary County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Bonners Ferry .
geography
The county is located in the far northwest of Idaho. It borders Washington to the west, Canada to the north, and Montana to the east ; within Idaho, it borders Bonner County to the south . Boundary County has an area of 3,311 square kilometers, of which 24 square kilometers are water.
history
Boundary County was formed on January 23, 1915 from parts of Bonner County and Kootenai County. It was named as a border county because it is on the border with Canada , Washington and Montana .

As of the 2000 census , Boundary County had 9,871 people in 3,707 households and 2,698 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.2 percent white, 0.2 percent African American, 2.0 percent Native American, 0.6 percent Asian, 0.1 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.9 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.1 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.4 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,707 households, 34.1 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.4 percent of them were married couples living together. 7.5 percent were single mothers and 27.2 percent were non-families. 23.1 percent were single households and 8.5 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.07.
29.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.9 percent between 18 and 24 years, 24.4 percent between 25 and 44 years, 26.2 percent between 45 and 64 years. 13.4 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 101.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 100.6 men.
The median household income was 31,250 USD , and the median income for a family 36,440 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,209 versus $ 18,682 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,636. 11.5 percent of families and 15.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
