River course
The Moyie River rises at an altitude of about 2050 m in the Moyie Range in the south of the Purcell Mountains . It initially flows 25 km in a north-easterly direction through the mountains. About 15 km southwest of the town of Cranbrook it turns east and flows through two 1.5 km apart lakes, collectively referred to as Moyie Lake , in a southerly direction. At the confluence with the northern lake, Moyie Lake Provincial Park is on the riverside. The settlement of Moyie is located on the eastern bank of the southern lake . The British Columbia Highway 3 ( Crowsnest Highway ) follows the course of the river from Moyie Lake to a few kilometers below Yahk , before turning to the northwest. At Yahk there is Ryan Provincial Park and Yahk Provincial Park on the river. At Eastport , 41 km above the estuary, the river crosses the US border. The lower reaches lie within Idaho's Boundary County . The US Highway 2 crossing the river 2 km above the mouth. The small town of Moyie Springs is west of the estuary, Bonners Ferry 13 km downstream on the Kootenay River.
