The county is located in western Idaho, bordering Oregon and has an area of ​​3816 square kilometers, of which 45 square kilometers are water.

Washington County was formed on February 20, 1879 from parts of Boise County. It was named after George Washington , the first President of the United States. Isolated settlers came to this area in 1811. It became known after gold discoveries in the early 1860s.

Washington County had a population of 9,977 people as of the 2000 census . Of these, 147 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 3,762 households and 2,738 families.
