Cambridge is a small town in Washington County in the US state of Idaho . Cambridge is about 160 km northwest of Boise . The place was founded in 1900 as a result of the construction of the Pacific and Idaho Northern Railway . The city is known for its proximity to the salmon lakes. Cambridge is the birth town of Herman Welker , a Senator from Idaho.
Origin of the name of the place
The name of the place is said to have originally been Lewisville, after the chief engineer of the railway construction line that led through the place and led to a greater settlement. Most of the people still lived in Salubria at the time, but there disputes with the railroad over land ownership broke out and many moved to Lewisville. Idaho already had a place called Lewiston by then, and the Post Office objected to having too many places with similar names in the same area. Therefore, the place was named after Albert Lewis place of study Cambridge in Massachusetts, where he had studied at Harvard University .
Infrastructure
There is little industry in Cambridge and the main sources of income are cattle raising, grain growing and logging. This offers young people little prospects for the future, but the landscape offers recreational opportunities in nature, such as fishing, hunting, mountain hiking, water sports and snowmobiling.
School and sport
The local high school was replaced in 2001 by a new building on the former school sports field west of the school. The boys were quite successful in soccer and the girls in volleyball. After the sports field was no longer available, the sports program was merged with the neighboring town of Midvale, 13 km to the south, and the Indian Valley in Adams County, approximately on the area of the original site of Salubria, to the west . Therefore, there are no longer the two clubs Midvale Rangers and Cambridge Bulldogs , but the Tri-Valley Titans .
