Elmore County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Mountain Home .

The county is located in the central southwest of Idaho and has an area of 8030 square kilometers, of which 59 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Boise County , Ada County , Owyhee County , Twin Falls County , Gooding County , Camas County, and Blaine Counties . The south of the county belongs to the Snake River Plain .
history
Elmore County was formed on February 7, 1889 from parts of Ada County and the defunct Alturas County . It was named after the Ida Elmore mines, the largest silver and gold mines in the area.

As of the 2000 census , Elmore County had 29,130 people in 9,092 households and 6,846 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 85.37 percent white, 3.25 percent African American, 0.89 percent Native American, 1.66 percent Asian, 0.19 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.39 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.25 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.99 percent of the population.
Of the 9,092 households, 43.0 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 64.1 percent of them were married couples living together. 7.5 percent were single mothers and 24.7 percent were non-families. 20.7 percent were single households and 6.4 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.21 people.
28.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 13.9 percent between 18 and 24 years, 36.0 percent between 25 and 44 years, 15.0 percent between 45 and 64 years. 7.1 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 29 years. For every 100 females there were 123.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 130.6 men.
The median household income was 35,256 USD , and the median income for a family 37,823 USD. Males had a median income of $ 26,248 versus $ 21,309 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,773. 8.8 percent of families and 11.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
