Clearwater County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Orofino .

The county is located in northwest Idaho, borders Montana to the northeast and has an area of ​​6,444 square kilometers, of which 69 square kilometers are water. The Dworshak Dam lies about six kilometers northwest of Orofino . It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Shoshone County , Latah County , Nez Perce County , Lewis County, and Idaho Counties .

Clearwater County was formed on February 27, 1911 from parts of Nez Perce County. It was named after the Clearwater River nearby.

Clearwater County has two National Historic Landmarks , Weippe Prairie and Lolo Pass . 6 other structures and sites are on the National Register of Historic Places .
