Elmore County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Mountain Home .

The county is located in the central southwest of Idaho and has an area of ​​8030 square kilometers, of which 59 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Boise County , Ada County , Owyhee County , Twin Falls County , Gooding County , Camas County, and Blaine Counties . The south of the county belongs to the Snake River Plain .

history

Elmore County was formed on February 7, 1889 from parts of Ada County and the defunct Alturas County . It was named after the Ida Elmore mines, the largest silver and gold mines in the area.

As of the 2000 census , Elmore County had 29,130 ​​people in 9,092 households and 6,846 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer.
