Valley County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Cascade .

The county is located in central northwest Idaho and has an area of 9,670 square kilometers, of which 145 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Idaho County , Adams County , Gem County , Boise County , Custer County, and Lemhi County .
history
Valley County was formed on February 26, 1917 from parts of Boise County and Idaho County. It was named after the 80 km long Long Valley ("long valley") through which the North Fork Payette River flowed .

At the time of the 2000 census , Valley County had 7,651 people in 3,208 households and 2,252 families. The population density was 1 person / km². The racial the population was composed of 96.43 percent white, 0.69 percent Native American, 0.30 percent Asian, 0.04 percent African American, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.10 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.40 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.96 percent of the population.
Of the 3,208 households, 28.1 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.9 percent of them were married couples living together. 5.4 percent were single mothers and 29.8 percent were non-families. 24.8 percent were single households and 7.9 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.81 people.
23.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 4.4 percent between 18 and 24 years, 24.9 percent between 25 and 44 years, 32.2 percent between 45 and 64 years. 14.8 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 105.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 104.4 men.
The median household income was 36,927 USD , and the median income for a family 42,283 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,113 versus $ 21,777 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,246. 6.2 percent of families and 9.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
