Camas County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Fairfield .

The county is located just southwest of the geographic center of Idaho and covers an area of 2,795 square kilometers, of which eleven square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Blaine Counties , Lincoln Counties , Gooding Counties , and Elmore Counties . The south of the county juts out into the Snake River Plain .
history
Camas County was formed on February 6, 1917 from parts of Blaine County. It was named after the Big Camas Prairie .
One of the county's buildings is on the National Register of Historic Places , the John Skillern House .

As of the 2000 census , Camas County had 991 people in 396 households and 287 families. The population density was 1 person / km². The racial the population was composed of 95.16 percent white, 1.21 percent African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian, 0.91 percent from other ethnic groups; 2.22 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.55 percent of the population.
Of the 396 households, 30.8 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 65.2 percent of them were married couples living together. 4.5 percent were single mothers and 27.5 percent were non-families. 22.2 percent were single households and 8.3 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.92 people.
24.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.6 percent between 18 and 24 years, 28.2 percent between 25 and 44 years, 27.5 percent between 45 and 64 years. 13.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 104.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 102.2 men.
The median household income was 34,167 USD , and the median income for a family 40,156 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,500 versus $ 21,563 for women. The per capita income was $ 19,550. 7.2 percent of families and 8.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
