Caribou County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Soda Springs .

The county is located almost in the extreme southeast of Idaho, borders Wyoming to the east , is about 60 km from Utah to the south and has an area of ​​4,658 square kilometers, of which 84 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Bonneville County , Bear Lake County , Franklin County , Bannock County, and Bingham County .

history

Caribou County was formed on February 11, 1919 from parts of Bannock County. It was named after the Caribou Mountains .

According to the 2000 census , Caribou County had 7,304 people in 2,560 households and 1,978 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.14 percent white, 0.05 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.08 percent Asian, 0.12 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.20 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.19 percent were descended from two or more races.
