Fremont County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is St. Anthony .

geography

The county is located in the far east of Idaho, borders Montana to the north and Wyoming to the east and has an area of ​​4910 square kilometers, of which 75 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Clark County , Jefferson County , Madison County, and Teton County . In Fremont County lies the eastern end of the Snake River Plain with the Island Park Caldera .

history

Fremont County was formed on March 4, 1893 from parts of Bingham County and Lemhi County. It was named after John C. Frémont , a US military officer and the first Republican candidate for the US presidency.

12 of the county's structures and sites are on the National Register of Historic Places .

As of the 2000 census , Fremont County had 11,819 people in 3,885 households and 3,030 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.41 percent white, 0.16 percent African American, 0.51 percent Native American, 0.36 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.94 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.56 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.62 percent of the population.
