Franklin County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Preston .

The county is located almost in the extreme southeast of Idaho, borders Utah to the south , is about 50 km from Wyoming to the east and has an area of 1731 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Oneida County , Bannock County , Caribou County, and Bear Lake Counties .
history
Franklin County was formed on January 30, 1913 from parts of Oneida County. It was named after the Mormon leader Franklin D. Richards .
Franklin County has a National Historic Landmark , the Bear River Massacre Site . 9 other structures and sites are on the National Register of Historic Places .

As of the 2000 census , Franklin County had 11,329 people in 3,476 households and 2,874 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.11 percent white, 0.11 percent African American, 0.29 percent Native American, 0.14 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.42 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.89 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.22 percent of the population.
Of the 3,476 households, 48.0 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 73.6 percent of them were married couples living together. 5.8 percent were single mothers and 17.3 percent were non-families. 16.0 percent were single households and 8.9 percent had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.24 and the average family size was 3.64 people.
37.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.3 percent between 18 and 24 years, 24.2 percent between 25 and 44 years, 17.5 percent between 45 and 64 years. 11.7 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 99.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 98.3 men.
The median household income was 36,061 USD , and the median income for a family 40,185 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,071 versus $ 21,077 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,702. 5.4 percent of families and 7.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
