Rupert is a place and county seat of Minidoka County in the US state of Idaho .
geography
The site is 3 miles north of Interstate 84 between Twin Falls and Pocatello and about 25 miles from Minidoka Dam with Lake Walcott Reservoir . Rupert covers an area of 5.3 km² (2.0 mi²).
history
With the completion of the Minidoka Dam, electricity was abundant. Rupert was one of the first cities in the world to switch its city lighting to electricity. Rupert was founded on April 12, 1906. The place was also called Gem City Gem City called, and officially named in November 1987 as Christmas City. With a lot of effort, the old historic district is being restored with the restoration of the old Wilson Theater from 1920.
