Jefferson County is a county in the state of Idaho in the United States . The county seat is Rigby .

The county is located in east-central Idaho, about 60 km to the north from Montana , about 70 km to the east from Wyoming , and has an area of ​​2,863 square kilometers, of which 27 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Clark County , Fremont County , Madison County , Bonneville County , Bingham County, and Butte Counties . It lies entirely within the plain of the Snake River Plain .

Jefferson County was formed on February 18, 1913 from parts of Fremont County. It was named after the US President Thomas Jefferson .

According to the 2000 census , Jefferson County had 19,155 people in 5,901 households and 4,880 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer.
