Iron County is a county in the state of Utah in the United States . In 2010 the population of the county was 46,163 people. The county seat is Parowan .

According to the US Census Bureau, Iron County covers an area of 8552 square kilometers, of which 10 square kilometers are water. The county borders the counties in a clockwise direction: Beaver County , Washington County , Kane County , Garfield County, and Lincoln County, Nevada.
history
Iron County was founded in 1852. The original name was Little Salt Lake Valley , it was later renamed Iron County after the many iron mines that exist in the county.

Iron County had a population of 33,779 people as of the 2000 census . There were 10,627 households and 8,076 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.00% White, 0.35% African American, 2.18% Native American, 0.74% Asian, 0.27% Pacific Islander, and 1.78% from other races Groups; 1.67% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 4.09% of the population.
Of the 10,627 households, 41.00% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 64.20% were married couples living together, 8.50% were single mothers. 24.00% were not families. 15.90% were single households and 5.90% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 3.11 and the average family size was 3.45 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 31.20% of residents under 18 years of age, 20.60% between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.60% between 25 and 44 years of age, and 16.10% between 45 and 64 years of age 8.60% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 24 years. For every 100 females there were 98.40 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 93.60 males.
The median income for a household in the 33,114 USD , and the median income for a family was 37,171 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,800 versus $ 19,831 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,568. 19.20% of the population and 13.10% of families are below the poverty line. 20.40% of these were under 18 years of age and 6.50% were 65 years of age or older.
